The DLC will conclude Daud's adventures begun in The Knife of Dunwall, carrying over existing chaos levels, powers, weapons, and upgrades from The Knife of Dunwall. Having uncovered the mystery and incurred the wrath of notorious witch Delilah Copperspoon, Daud pursues her to disrupt a ritual that will "spell [his] doom."[1] Promotional materials suggest that the Dead Eels and the Hatters, warring gang factions, will appear in the DLC to assist Daud in his efforts to reach Delilah. Further, the DLC promises to feature Daud's final confrontation with Corvo Attano.

Seeking redemption for killing the Empress, Daud is given a directive by the Outsider: unravel the mystery behind Delilah. Daud sets out on a journey that includes stops in familiar places (the Whalers' base in the Flooded District) as well as areas of Dunwall not seen in Dishonored's main story (the Legal District and the Rothchild Slaughterhouse). Like Corvo, Daud is imbued with supernatural powers by the Outsider. Some of them are new, like Summon Assassin, which lets the player call in acolytes for assistance in combat. Others are variations on Corvo's abilities, such as Void Gaze ? which highlights Runes and Bone Charms ? and Blink, which, when used, will now completely stop time. Daud also has an array of gadgets at his disposal, including Choke Gas, an attack that dazes enemies, and Arc Mines. Bethesda has confirmed that The Knife of Dunwall will serve as the first of two DLC add-ons focusing on Daud; Dishonored's final DLC, The Brigmore Witches, will complete the arc. Its release date is currently unknown.

Set in the fictional industrial city of Dunwall, modeled after Victorian London, Dishonored follows Corvo Attano, a legendary bodyguard to the Empress who is framed for her murder and forced to become an assassin to seek revenge on those who conspired against him. Attano is aided in his quest by the Outsider, a powerful being who imbues him with magical abilities. Several actors provide voice work for the game, including Susan Sarandon, Brad Dourif, Carrie Fisher, Billy Lush, Lena Headey and Chloë Grace Moretz. The game is played from a first-person perspective and allows the player to tackle a series of assassination missions in a variety of ways, with an emphasis on player choice. Missions can be tackled by stealth, combat or a combination of both. Exploring levels opens new paths and alternatives for accomplishing mission goals, and it is possible to complete all missions and eliminate all of Attano's targets in a non-lethal manner. The story and missions are modified based on violent actions, or lack thereof, committed by the player. Magical abilities and equipment are designed to be combined to create new and varied effects.
